Is That All There Is? 9th – 10th March

ITATI is a two day conference to spark new thinking on work with young people with learning disabilities right across the arts sector.

Open TheatreThis is a one-off event & we are looking for young people (with and without learning disabilities) to help manage the running of the conference, film and evaluate it and in some cases showcase their work. Many of the young people we work with are already signed up to do this but we are looking for more to join us!

CanCanCan Festival
As part of this event, the CanCanCan Festival is the first of its kind, showcasing the work of solo performers with a learning disability. The headline act is Cian Binchy’s Edinburgh-hit show The Misfit Analysis. Using multi-media, video projection and Cian’s own brand of performance poetry, The Misfit Analysis takes us through a world of wheelchairs and blow up dolls in an unconventional exploration of an autistic mind. A host of local warm-up acts complete the line-up of this ‘Live at the Apollo’-style evening, including comedian Nicky Priest, poet Vicki Taylor and physical performer Jake Jarvis. Portraits by artist Rory Baird will be on display.

More about the ITATI…
In Birmingham alone there are 7,000 young people with learning disabilities. Extrapolate that to the West Midlands, and then to the whole of England. Individual arts organisations who specialise in work with ypwld can only hope to scratch the surface…but imagine if the whole sector came together to offer quality, boundary-breaking work for ypwld. Just think what an impact we would have. The conference aims to set this process in motion…
