Town Hall Symphony Hall’s Project SoundLounge team hosts a free one day music & arts festival at Town Hall, Birmingham on Saturday 6 August, 2pm – 11pm. The Festival, curated by a team of determined and talented 16-25 year-olds celebrates Birmingham’s diverse and under the radar talent.
Project SoundLounge is part of an ongoing project with Town Hall Symphony Hall. This year sees the fourth festival entirely programmed, produced and promoted by a group of local 16-25 year olds who all share a passion for the arts.
The showcase featured a variety of live performances from the smooth soulful sounds of Ashley Allen’s band of young performers, to indie rock band Karl Monroe. The event provided a taster for the Festival day in August and also featured one of Project SoundLounge’s former ‘fellows’ Joe Cook, who was commissioned to perform a spoken word piece highlighting some of the challenges faced within the arts.
This year’s Project SoundLounge Festival showcases the best local, emerging artists who will be performing on the world-renowned Town Hall stage. The line-up will present a variety of artists from the local underground scene providing a platform for young musicians and artists.
The line-up includes an afternoon full of the freshest female talent: Affie Jam with guitar-led, mellow and soulful tones; Barbella, and her Neo-soul, progressive R&B with electro muses; Truemendous, featuring a storytelling and poetry infused rap; Marieè, with her brand of electronic, R&B and soul fusion and Kemi Sulola, a singer-songwriter mixing fresh British Soul and R&B.
As the night progresses the volume increases for three genre-bending bands: Dorcha, a five-piece alternative, electronic goth pop group; Butternut, a Neo-soul band with Electro and Hip-Hop and then finally, Karl Monroe, a four-piece Indie Psychedelic band
